Get in the Mood for Love With Another Man’s Valentine’s Day Playlist

Vincent Pons presents 30 romantic jams that tell a love story from first meeting to breaking up

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we present a playlist of 30 romance-themed songs selected by Vincent Pons, assistant to Another Man’s creative director Alister Mackie – which, if listened to chronologically, tell a love story from start to finish. The playlist opens with Etta James’ soaring Something’s Got a Hold On Me – as no song better illustrates the heady rush of a first crush – then traverses through Chris Isaak’s intoxicating Wicked Game, Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling in Love, and on to the blissful high of Grace Jones’ La vie en rose, with love songs by the likes of Wanda Jackson, Air, Jefferson Airplane, and The Beatles in between.

Things start to get complicated when we reach The Smiths’ co-dependent anthem There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, after which break-up jams such as Nirvana’s Where Did You Sleep Last Night and Led Zeppelin’s Babe I’m Gonna Leave You eventually follow. Fear not, however, as things do end amicably; the playlist closes with Carole King’s rendition of You’ve Got A Friend. With songs for cynics and lovebirds alike, press play to get in the Valentine’s mood.
