Ralph Lauren’s Debuts Polo Shirt Made Entirely from Plastic Bottles

Coinciding with Earth Day yesterday, Polo Ralph Lauren has revealed The Earth Polo, its iconic polo shirt recreated using entirely recycled materials. Each Earth Polo is constructed from thread made from plastic bottles – around 12 per shirt – and dyed in an innovative process which uses zero water. The polo shirt was created alongside First Mile, which works with entrepeneurs in low-income communities to collect plastic bottles, which are then processed into yarn, and ultimately fabric. “Plastic waste is a major issue threatening the environment – we want to be part of the solution and utilise an innovative approach to create something valuable,” said David Lauren, chief innovation officer. With this in mind, the brand has also committed to remove 170 million plastic bottles from landfill and oceans by 2025, releasing their full sustainability strategy this June.

The Earth Polo is available in global stores now and on ralphlauren.co.uk
