A New McQueen Flagship Store Has Opened in London

Creative director of Alexander McQueen Sarah Burton teamed up with architect Smiljan Radic to produce a newly opened flagship store on London’s Old Bond Street. The 11,000 square foot luxury retail space – combining both menswear and womenswear – marks the start of the brand’s plans to expand its brick and mortar stores to 128 locations. McQueen’s chief executive Emmanuel Gintzburger officer told WWD that the store is a “distinctive world”, putting emphasis on the experience of shopping for pieces designed at the house. “It creates a different kind of visitor flow that is calm and private, quiet and engaging,” Gintzburger explained. The store’s aesthetic is inspired by nature, with oak and walnut used in walls, floors and ceilings alongside a specially developed cladding called ‘cotton-crete’. The flagship’s second floor will also host regular interactive workshops, talks and exhibitions, tailored for students.
