Greta Thunberg Features on the The 1975’s Just-Released New Song

The Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg has written an essay on climate change for The 1975’s new album Notes on a Conditional Form, which she recites over the title song, The 1975 (each of their albums begins with a version of the eponymous track). “We have to acknowledge that the older generations have failed,” she says on the track, which was released overnight. “All political movements in their present form have failed. But homo sapiens have not yet failed. Yes, we are failing, but there is still time to turn everything around.” On Twitter, the band’s frontman Matty Healy said “meeting Greta Thunberg was such an inspiration”, while Thunberg said “I’m grateful to get the opportunity to get my message out to a broad new audience in a new way”. The 1975 – the profits of which will go to Extinction Rebellion – is available now.
