Gary Card Creates ‘Shrine’ In Memory of Prince

The set designer and illustrator presents a new piece to commemorate the second anniversary of Prince’s death, exclusively for Another Man

Tomorrow marks two whole years since Prince departed this world. To commemorate this moment, we invited set designer, illustrator and Prince superfan Gary Card to create us something in memory of the High Priest of Pop. This is what he produced...

“The Prince Shrine is a transatlantic collaboration of sorts,” he explains. “I’ve been in love with the work of Troy Gua for a long time, a fellow Prince nut and artist. His ongoing project Le Petit Prince is the most exhaustive account of Prince’s evolving look... in puppet form! His attention to detail is incredible and now that he’s gone through all of the most iconic looks, he’s exploring Prince’s live wardrobe and it’s amazing. Check out his work here.

“When Another Man invited me to make an image to commemorate the world’s second year without the great man, I thought a shrine would be a great idea. Troy and I have discussed collaborating in the past and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do it. I asked if he’d be willing to send me a couple of Purple Rain-era Prince busts he’d made a couple of years back and he sent me a box of 15, all slightly warped broken (which I loved). It seemed crazy not to use all of them.”
