Dilara Findikoglu Unveils Seance-Inspired Installation at Selfridges

The sorceress of British design takes over a space at the London department store

On Monday, Turkish-born designer and Another Man’s S/S18 cover star Dilara Findikoglu opened an installation London’s Selfridges. With the help of artist William Farr, she transformed this space into a place that reflects her horror-inspired world, complete with seven eerie dolls dressed in her S/S18 collection and fitted with custom wigs designed by hair stylist Anthony Turner – photographed here by Chloe Orefice for Another Man.

Farr covered the space in A4 white paper and hung flowers from the wall, giving the installation a gothic feel. “[The project] was very collaborative,” explains the artist, who is planning to stage a exhibition later this year. “Dilara came with the initial idea of a seance and then we began to looks at references for the installation, like the idea of the figures having a kind of Sarah Lucas vibe.”

The wigs similarly riffed on this idea of a seance, drawing inspiration from the Victorian era and their fascination with all things occultic. Turner imagined three different characters and designed a wig for each. “The first character is very witchy and heads the table during seances,” he explains. “I loved the idea of her having a pet raven who hides trinkets in her hair so I incorporated darkly shiny beads within the braids. The second look is inspired by 18th century hair, but I wanted to twist it and mix it with the 1980s. The final result is a fun mash up of both time periods – Louis XIV goes to the Blitz Club!”
