Milan Men’s Fashion Week: The Details at Dsquared2

This season, Dean and Dan riffed on Western themes with a collection titled ‘Rhinestone Rebel’

This season, the Caten twins went West – to the Wild West. Staged yesterday, their A/W18 show was an explosion of denim and plaid, leather and suede; cowboy hats, bandanas and bolo ties, along with classic Dsquared2 embellishments.

But this wasn’t the Wild West of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood or Gary Cooper, it was the Wild West of Stevie Nicks, Katie Lang and Johnny Cash; a more androgynous, rhinestone-set take on the theme comprising of silk shirting, satin suiting and fluffy shearling coats.

“[The collection was] inspired by dudes having fun,” they told us, elaborating on the collection, “be it the ranch-hand on the prairie or like the original rhinestone cowboy shining at the disco... you gotta have fun!”

“For us, growing up there wasn’t always a safe space to develop and embrace what you were born to be,” they continue. “It’s important that our fashion celebrates the growing freedom to be yourself and to challenge norms. We will continue to sync our men’s and women’s lines and we’re proud to have been one of the first to champion co-ed collections… we even produced and sold killer glitter platform heels for both men and women a couple of years back because why the hell not?”

Amid all the Western references and rhinestones, though, the brand’s craftsmanship was clear – as was the wearability of their clothes. It was a fun and spunky (their words) take on one of their favourite themes.
