Lauryn Hill Shuts Down Claims that She ‘Stole’ Music for Miseducation

This year Lauryn Hill’s seminal album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill – which broke a record for first-week sales by a female artist – turns 20. Its anniversary however has been marred by allegations made by jazz pianist and producer Robert Glasper, who claims she ‘stole’ music for the record and mistreated musicians. Yesterday, Hill responded to these allegations, publishing a powerful article for Medium. In it, Hill, who hasn’t done an interview in over a decade, shares her side of the story, also taking the opportunity to address the urban myth that she hates white people, emphasise what she’s done for music and the image of black women in hip hop and much, much more.
